Here is what we are doing this week:
Monday: Bring devices, we will be back on nearpod.com. We will be discussing imperialism and how the U.S. competed in being an imperialistic power. We will continue to look at Hawaii, the Great White Fleet, and cultural superiority.
Tuesday: Class will start with students using their artistic abilities. Students will begin with a warm up exercise in which they have to draw a map of North and South America, labeling the U.S. and then placing Cuba and Hawaii in their appropriate locations. We will use these maps to figure out why the U.S. was interested in Cuba. Today we will spend discussing Cuba leading up to conflict with Spain.
Wednesday: Today we will finish up discussing the issue of Cuba. We will look at ways in which the U.S. attempted to obtain Cuba prior to 1900. Additionally, we will discuss yellow journalism, what it is, and its impact on the conflict in America. We will compare yellow journalism to present day media in an attempt to contrast (and find similarities) between the two.
Thursday: Students will be assigned the "Time Magazine" project. It is an individual project that each student will be responsible for. Students will need to bring additional materials to class such as a ruler, device, and either markers, colored pencils, or even crayons. We will go over the project before they begin. This project will be due on Wednesday, December 9th.
Friday: Students will continue to work on the project today.
