AMERICAN HISTORY

Course Description: American History is a two semester course.
American History will cover the time span from the earliest people to inhabit the American continent through colonialism, the Revolutionary War, the forming of a new country, our growth on a world stage, the Civil War and finally reconstruction after the Civil War Ended.
Overall Goals and Objectives: The student will gain an understanding of our country and the events that helped shape it.
Course Outline:
1. The Early Americas
2. European Colonization
3. Revolutionary Era
4. A Constitution for the United States
5. The Early Republic
6. The Age of Jackson and Westward Expansion
7. Society and Culture before the Civil War
8. The Civil War
9. The Reconstruction Era
Beginning/End of Class- You should be in your seat with all required materials BEFORE the bell rings. At the end of class, you should be in your seat until the bell rings.
Grading Policy: Refer to Student Handbook
Missed, make-up, and late work: Refer to Student Handbook
Assessments: Student mastery will be measured on a regular basis using a variety of quizzes, exams, and projects. The quizzes will be a combination of announced and unannounced, generally measure one or two learning objectives, and be of limited point value. Exams will be pre-announced and measure several learning objectives. Projects will be assigned and measure two to four learning objectives. There will be a comprehensive first semester and second semester final exam.

Students will need for class: text book, folder, writing utensil, paper, device, *additional items will be needed as projects are assigned.
I expect all students to be prepared for class and respect the ideas and opinions of others. Additionally, I expect all students to have an open mind and be prepared to work hard and achieve the best grade possible in the class.
